Volatility Indices 2026 | VIX 75 and All Volatility Index Trading Guide

What Are Volatility Indices?

Volatility Indices are simulated markets that have a constant volatility rate. Unlike real-world assets where volatility rises and falls based on news, these indices maintain a stable level of volatility at all times.

They are named after their constant volatility percentage. For example, Volatility 10 Index has a constant volatility of 10%, while Volatility 75 Index has a constant volatility of 75%. The higher the number, the faster and more aggressively the price moves.

Popular Volatility Indices on Deriv

  • Volatility 10 Index (VIX 10) — Low volatility, slow and steady movements. Great for beginners.
  • Volatility 50 Index (VIX 50) — Medium volatility, perfect for trend-following strategies.
  • Volatility 75 Index (VIX 75) — High volatility, the absolute king of synthetic indices. Moves fast and can make (or blow) an account quickly.
  • Volatility 100 Index (VIX 100) — Very high volatility, fast-paced and requires strict risk management.

The “1s” Series Indices

Deriv also offers “1s” versions of these indices (e.g., Volatility 75 (1s) Index). The difference is that the normal indices update their price every 2 seconds, while the “1s” series updates the price every single second, making them move twice as fast.

VIX Lot Sizes Guide

You must use the correct lot size for each index. VIX 75 has a very low minimum lot size because it moves so fast, while others have larger minimums:

IndexMinimum Lot Size

Volatility 75 Index0.001
Volatility 100 Index0.20

VIX 75 Trading Strategy

To trade VIX 75 successfully, use support and resistance levels combined with price action candlesticks (like pin bars and engulfing patterns) on the 1-hour or 4-hour charts. Wait for the price to hit a major support or resistance level, look for a rejection candlestick, and enter with a tight stop loss. This keeps your risk small while targeting huge moves.
